Wood-burning stoves are highly efficient and can be much cheaper to run than conventional gas, oil or electric heating systems. A wood burning stove can burn for hours depending on the type of wood and how well it is seasoned. Wood is a convenient renewable source of fuel which offers a real home fire experience complete with flames, smell and that wonderfully homely feeling. A wood-burning stove can also earn home credits in its Energy Performance Certificate too, because they are such efficient sources of energy that they out-perform both solar panels and ground source heat pumps. We also recommend kiln dried hardwood logs, of which we are stockists. Kiln dried hardwood firewood logs can give 3 times as much heat as the same amount of unseasoned softwood logs, therefore giving a higher output and greater efficiency, along with fewer problems with stoves and flues. Multi Fuel stoves offer flexibility, as the name suggests they can handle a range of fuels such as wood, coke, coal, peat and biomass. Biomass refers to fuels formed from organic substances such as shelled corn and wheat hulls. Both types of stove are made of a steel or cast iron body. Each material has its own properties. Steel heats up quicker and cools down faster. Cast iron is slower to heat up but retains the heat for a time after the fire is out. We are proud to say that 90% of our stoves are British made and we try to source from local manufacturers. As we are becoming more environmentally aware these days, every gas or electric bill is a reminder that the way forward is to look at alternatives that are sustainable for the future. For installation of our stoves we always suggest a professional installer accredited by HETAS, the official body of solid fuel domestic heating appliances and fuels. Its tradesperson accreditation scheme is akin to Gas Safe Register used for regulating gas professionals. Installation of your new stove is much easier if your home already has a chimney.
